Lila adjusted the strap of her backpack as she stepped into the community garden. The sun had just risen, and the morning air smelled of fresh soil and blooming flowers. Today was her turn to lead the group of volunteers, a responsibility she had been both excited and nervous about all week.

The first task was to organize the watering schedule. Several younger students stood waiting by the hose, chattering eagerly. Lila assigned them sections of the garden, reminding them to give just enough water, not too much. Next, she guided another group to pull out the weeds that were crowding the bean plants.

As the morning went on, Lila noticed one boy sitting quietly on the edge of the garden, not participating. She approached him gently and asked if he’d like to help. He hesitated, then nodded, taking the small rake she offered. Soon, he was working alongside the others, a smile spreading across his face.

By the time the sun was high, the garden looked healthier and tidier. Lila wiped her brow and felt a deep sense of pride. Not only had she helped care for the plants, but she had also helped bring people together.
